November 2000 PRESENTER
OF THE MONTH
REIN WORTELBOER of The Netherlands, HERO
OF COUNTRY MUSIC
Rein is a handsome man of nearly six feet with
broad shoulders, laughing eyes, and fair skin, which features a
recent tan. He brushes his hand across his full head of dark
hair and takes long steps to approach the microphone in Beaumont,
Texas. He has traveled across the ocean from The Netherlands to
Texas as a Presenter for the Lone Star State Awards show that was
held in late October 2000.
He talks easily to the Texas crowd, telling
a joke on himself before getting down to the business of making
a young singer feel good about himself. The large audience loves
Rein.
Off to the side and out of the limelight sits
his lovely and obviously tired wife Ells. The two of them have been
visiting American Music sites for weeks now - sites such as the
Blue Grass Festival in Kentucky, a two-day event with KMA Records
chief Keith Bradford of Nashville, and to Clarksville, Tennessee
to visit Millennium Records CEO Charlie Ray. Yes, Rein and Ells
are both tired, but very happy to be a part of country music.
During the show Ells helps out by making a list
of names for Helen and Bill Foster as they ready the arena for the
continuous crowds of hopeful singers and pickers. Later at home
in the Netherlands, Rein goes to the radio station where he works
as a Presenter (Disc Jockey). He opens his mail, which contains
a new music CD from an unknown singer on an unknown label in Georgia,
USA. He listens. It sounds pretty good so he plays it on his radio
show. He emails the news via the Internet that, on his playlist,
the song was heard in The Netherlands on Rein's radio show today.
A singer in Georgia is happy, and Rein is happy because he is doing
what he loves, playing and promoting country music. Ells turns on
the radio in her kitchen in the Netherlands. She hears the happy
voice of her husband Rein playing the country music that he loves.
She hears the smile in his voice and she smiles.
Rein a hero? Oh yes! Rein Wortelboer is a hero!
He is a hero to his listeners, to independent record labels, to
singers and pickers, and to country music!
Check out Rein's website

I had just arrived in the Fort
Worth/Dallas airport in Texas, and chose a seat close to the airport
window. I was to watching for my next plane to arrive.
I began a conversation with a lady and told
her I was from Nashville. I'm on my way to the Lone Star State Awards
show, in Beaumont, when the next plane arrives to take me there,"
I said to her.
Suddenly the man sitting on my immediate left,
rose and stuck out his hand, "I'm Jerry Rivera, from Kissimmee
Florida. Keith Bradford from Nashville invited me up. Do you know
him? I'm also am on my way to the Awards show. "
"Small world" I said, "I'm Anna
Prince. Keith of KMA Records is my neighbor! Your name is Rivera?
Are you kin to Geraldo Rivera on television? I was a guest on his
T.V. show in New York once.' "Well yes, I am related to Geraldo,
or so I am told. He is my cousin."
So, this is how I met Promoter, Jerry Rivera. We traveled on to
Beaumont together. Once in Beaumont two airports away, we learned
we had both previously booked our stay at the same Days Inn, on
the pool side with rooms a few feet from each other! Keith and his
wife Leta's room were appropriately between us. I learned that Jerry
Rivera was formerly the promoter and talent scout for ED MCMAHAN
in STAR SEARCH. That his company and KMA Records had been working
together in Florida.
Jerry Rivera lives in Kissimmee Florida and
produces shows for the WILD HORSE SALOON at DISNEY WORLD. He hosts
and produces two weekly show which he calls
YOU ARE THE STAR.
